Grace Period for Toms River Property Tax Payments Extended

Tax hike included in 2014 budget

Toms River Township officials say they will be mailing out property tax bills for the year this week, and have set an extension for payment of the bill that is usually due Aug. 1.

The bills are set to be mailed on Friday, while the grace period to pay the Aug. 1 quarterly bill without interest has been extended to Aug. 22, according to the township.

The Aug. 1 tax bill is calculated using an estimated tax rate since all county and local government budgets have not been certified by the county tax board. The Nov. 1, 2014 tax bill is projected to be mailed by the end of September 2014, officials said.

The township's budget was held up from final passage this year due to a delay in federal aid related to Superstorm Sandy recovery. The township eventually got the bulk of the aid, but had to dip into a surplus fund in order to keep the tax rate from rising more than originally proposed.

Taxpayers will see about a 3.8 cent per $100 of real property value rise in the tax rate this year.
