LED Billboard Plan Fizzled Out?

Planning Board denies plan, but applicant could appeal

The chance to resubmit a proposal for a 600 square-foot LED billboard at Route 37 eastbound and Main Street came up empty for applicant Jersey Outdoor Media, as the Toms River Zoning Board voted recently to deny the application.

to build a 600 square foot billboard which would stand 40 feet over the intersection of Route 37 and Main Street. The initial proposal was denied, and a motion to deny the appeal did not carry.

The zoning board meeting was the third opportunity for Jersey Outdoor Media to plead their case, change the board members’ minds, or propose a new site and plan altogether. Yet, as last time, no one who represented the company appeared to the board.

Therefore, a new vote carried to approve a denial of this new resolution, which, according to zoning board attorney Kim Pascarella, has restricted Jersey Outdoor Media to a 45-day waiting period during which the company cannot file an appeal to the board.

While the company will be able to appeal after the required wait time, the outlook does not look good for Jersey Outdoor Media to get an approval to their resolution, as the board itself has not seen any resolutions to their denial.
