Memorial Service Aug. 11 for Gold Star Families in Honor of Fallen Soldiers

'Our Heroes Remembered' service takes place August 11 at American Legion Post 129

A memorial service 'Our Heroes Remembered' will be held at 6 p.m. on August 11 at the Toms River American Legion Post 129 ( 2025 Church Road) for Gold Star families that have lost a member in battle.

The Memorial Service aims to honor every New Jersey Service Member who was killed during Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom, to assure the Gold Star Families that the ultimate sacrifice of their loved one will never be forgotten and to assure the Gold Star Families that we know they have also paid an enormous price.

As of this date, there have been 168 New Jersey Service Members killed. The immediate families of these Heroes will be invited. Speakers will be Capt. David Harrison of Naval Weapons Station Earl, Congressman Jon Runyan and Vice-Commander Eugene O’Grady of the American Legion, Department of New Jersey. During this Service, all Soldiers’ names will be read in conjunction with a PowerPoint presentation of their picture and the lighting of a candle. The Ocean County Vocational Chorus will sing, accompanied by the Powerhouse Big Band Orchestra.  The Shamrocks and Thistle Pipes and Drums will also be in attendance. Light refreshments will be served after the Service.
