Ocean County Backs Lonegan in Senate Race

Democrat Cory Booker comes out victorious, however

In a heavily Republican county, perhaps it is no surprise that Ocean overwhelmingly chose the GOP’s Steve Lonegan over Democrat Cory Booker to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the death of late Sen. Frank Lautenberg.

The ballots in Ocean County, however, were not enough to change the outcome of the race, where Booker was declared the winner before 10 p.m. – less than two hours after polls closed on Wednesday.

In the county, Lonegan bested Booker 64 to 34 percent overall, with about 27 percent of registered voters casting ballots.

OCEAN RESULTS:

Lonegan (R) - 64.37% / 67,893 votes
Booker (D) - 34.64% / 36,532 votes

Registered Voters:  379,193
Ballots Cast Total:  105,620
Voter Turnout:  27.85 %
