Officials Announce New Ortley Beach Re-entry Details

Phase 3 allows for staggered resident re-entry through Dec. 7

Officials in Toms River have announced an update to the Ortley Beach re-entry plan.

Using their own vehicle as transportation, residents will be allowed access to their properties on certain dates depending on where they live through Dec. 7, according to the latest information released on the Toms River municipal website

Officials have divided Ortley Beach into three sections — West, Middle and East — and a resident's property location dictates when they are able to enter the battered barrier island section to winterize homes and meet with insurance adjusters.

Complete details, including the guidelines for re-entry and map showing the division of Ortley Beach are available on the Toms River municipal website. Re-entry plans for beaches north of Lavallette are also available online.

Get with the program Patch! It's been on their website for over a week. How about an answer as to when we will be allowed in daily? There is NO POSSIBLE REASON as to why we can be the daily.

Time to grow up sandy

The schedule is good as far as it goes. For people unable to lose a days pay in order to spend 5 hours in their home it is inadequate. People in the Middle section were allowed in this past Saturday and don't get another weekend day for 2 weeks. On a good note the police were doing a great job making sure everyone stayed on their own property which goes a long way towards preventing potential problems.

The traffic was horrific! We actually were in the same spot not moving for close to 40 minutes! Took 4 1/2 hours from east Hanover to Ortley! Should take 90 minutes! That's just plain wrong!
Ajv November 27, 2012 at 12:29 AM
It happens unfortunately
Hurricane Sandy November 27, 2012 at 12:50 AM
@Ajv Get a life.... If you like hearing old news so be it. I, along with many others would like to hear something new! If they opened all of Ortley up daily, with IDs, even if they like. There would be less traffic. People would be able to come and go to THEIR HOME at their convenience. Not all jam in on set days. Then maybe Cindys commute would be cut to 2 1/2hrs instead of 4 1/2. It will be (1) month this IS OBSURD!!!!!!!!
Ajv November 27, 2012 at 01:00 AM
@sandy My dear you need to calm yourself, are you the type to start beeping the second the light turns green? Ah yes
letsgetreal November 27, 2012 at 01:43 AM
yea and then it would be pandemonium on the beach and all the thieves would be stealing your stuff and then you would complain that to many people are there....stop thinking of just yourself. Who is going to control the HUGE crowds...oh thats right you could care less right as long as you get to go to YOUR house .
Mark November 27, 2012 at 01:46 AM
Everyone should come to the Council meeting tomorrow night, Tuesday 11/27/12 at 6PM at 33 Washington St and express your concerns.
PJ Ortley November 27, 2012 at 01:47 AM
Took the side streets today (Monday) but not much better. Everyone has figured that out! Took one hour from Garfield and Rte 37 to Ortley Beach at 7:45am. We need a plan for beyond Dec 7th so we can plan.
Hurricane Sandy November 27, 2012 at 01:53 AM
Ajv, I'm perfectly calm........ Beeping the second a light changes and visiting your TAX PAYING PROPERTY twice in a month are two different animals! But yes, I would probably beep after about 5/6 seconds. And it sounds like from your comments here you would sit behind that car and wait until the next light. :-) Also, you don't have a clue about me!!!!!!!!!!! So sorry, your completely wrong.
Ajv November 27, 2012 at 01:58 AM
Sandy think I got you figured out just fine, all about me me me my house my house
Hurricane Sandy November 27, 2012 at 02:18 AM
letsgetreal..... MORON LBI.... OPEN LAVELLETE.... OPEN SSP..... OPEN ORTLEY BEACH.... WHEN WE LET YOU. And as for thinking of myself. My house, (PERMANENT RESIDENCE) was totaled. And I can care less. Insurance is paying. I'm thinking of all others who really need to get in to tend to there properties. NOT YOUR WAIT AND SEE ATTITUDE!! Maybe all the thieves can steal all the garbage in front of our homes. And heres a question for you? If they check IDs like I mentioned, and all the residents are in working on there homes during the day. How are the thieves going to be stealing? Besides, anything of value everyone has removed. Remember, water damage, mold, get your valuables out.
Hurricane Sandy November 27, 2012 at 02:22 AM
Ajv Like I said before, completely wrong. You can read my comments to letsgetreal. Maybe you should get real too!!!
Ajv November 27, 2012 at 03:01 AM

Normandy Girl November 27, 2012 at 03:30 AM
Definitely going, also how about a sticker for the car like BRICK has been doing for two weeks, easy id also let the northewrn TR beaches in by Mantoloking Bridge, these are county or state bridges not owned by Brick or TR!! I am sick of driving to TR bridge from my temp home in wall Twsp and then north on island to Normandy.
Jim O'Connor November 27, 2012 at 03:30 AM
Why haven't we been given decals for our vehicles denoting our zone to speed up access on our assigned days.
Normandy Girl November 27, 2012 at 03:36 AM
We are in this together if you live in TR twsp. They have done a lousy job with the entire island . I realize Ortley was very hard hit, and they need alot of help, so my point again, let Norm, Silver, chadwick in thru Manto Bridge so we are out of their way down on Ortley. It does not take a genius too crowded and traffic bad!
Normandy Girl November 27, 2012 at 03:39 AM
Why can't my comments get thru? Nothing is incorrect, just the facts.
Normandy Girl November 27, 2012 at 03:40 AM
what does DELETE mean? Why me
Normandy Girl November 27, 2012 at 12:31 PM
Glad to see my commentary has been posted. Who do you have to discuss to be deleted??? TR is wasting time. Some towns (Mantoloking, Lavallette,Bayhead, Curtis Point, Mantoloking Shores) allowed in daily. Come on TR get on board. I have paid 480,000$ in taxes to TR in the years I have lived there---which used to be called Dover Twsp---why switch in the middle of a recession?? Who runs the show over there? It is so frustrating.

Listen Ortley needs to leave Toms River heck we have a Seaside Zipcode
a turello November 27, 2012 at 01:56 PM
Ortley needs to stop paying property taxes to Toms River. This will get everyone's attention. They want us for the tax revenue and they know they can screw us over because we dont have enough voters to make any difference. Not paying property taxes will cause them to miss their payroll and other obligations very quickly. That......they understand.
1stcav November 27, 2012 at 02:03 PM
Lisa: and what will that do for you ??????? The" old old boys" are in ALL of these towns which have been voted in time and time yet AGAIN !!!!! GRIP means nothing even when you have been forewarned, not to vote them BACK in ....Look @ OUR Sheriff , he's in again and is going to be in office @ 100 yrs old, and by past practice he may very well make it !!! The sheep are led to the edge of the cliff yet again , just like the past years...YOU vote these same people in and expect a different result this time around...WHY ??????? Behooves me after each election, you have the power , yet the turn out is poor and those in charge get THERE people out and a minority gets there ticket in .. yet again ! WTH over !!
shorefriend November 28, 2012 at 06:08 PM
I totaly agree, what is this a communist state!! We are the owners and taxpayers. I am so angry at they way the homeowners have been treated it's ridiculous. Urge everyone and anyone who has a voice or even better some govt connection big or small to raise a stink and put a stop to this nonsense buracratic BS, enough time has past now that safe passage is possible let's get to work now and cleanup the mess and get back to our lives.
cw1234 November 28, 2012 at 11:20 PM
Yes please become part of Seaside, then you will have no car to get to your home either!
