Ortley Beach Building Department Location Opens, Ready For Post-Sandy Rebuilding

Office will handle building issues on the hard-hit barrier island that continues to recover from Superstorm Sandy

A satellite location for Toms River Township's Building Department has opened in the Ortley Beach section, officials announced this week.

As the hard-hit barrier island neighborhoods continue to recover from Superstorm Sandy, the department should streamline work in that part of the township, members of the township council said.

"People can walk in and drop of all their permits there, or they can also drop them off at town hall," said Councilwoman Maria Maruca.

The office, located at the township's annex in the A&P shopping center, will provide include services such as engineering, planning, zoning, conservation, community development, construction services, affordable housing and code enforcement. The department also provides building and electrical permits to residents and administrative services to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Environmental Commission.

The office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Maruca said.
