Ortley Beach Building Department Location Opens, Ready For Post-Sandy Rebuilding

Office will handle building issues on the hard-hit barrier island that continues to recover from Superstorm Sandy

A satellite location for Toms River Township's Building Department has opened in the Ortley Beach section, officials announced this week.

As the hard-hit barrier island neighborhoods continue to recover from Superstorm Sandy, the department should streamline work in that part of the township, members of the township council said.

"People can walk in and drop of all their permits there, or they can also drop them off at town hall," said Councilwoman Maria Maruca.

The office, located at the township's annex in the A&P shopping center, will provide include services such as engineering, planning, zoning, conservation, community development, construction services, affordable housing and code enforcement. The department also provides building and electrical permits to residents and administrative services to the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Environmental Commission.

The office will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, Maruca said.

In addition to helping out with post sandy rebuilding , as a special holiday treat, they will also be handing out extra large rolls of RED TAPE , and on your way out the door heading back to your destroyed homes grab a slice of pizza on the house .

At the one year and almost two months mark I guess you could say government works very slowly. Now if our elected officials could get the Toms River Government Workers (that get paid with our tax dollars) to answer the Township phones and treat residents with courtesy and respect we will have made progress!

love maruca's pizza...too bad they are failures at the problems need solving. didn't they open new place somewhere on boards?
The folks manning that office are in for a long Winter - be glad they are there, and make sure you are prepared as best as you can be when going in. They are about to be shelled with long overdue applications - everyone arriving is going to have a whole year's frustration making their teeth grind, and understandably so. Remember, those folks are there to help you...once your needs are met, be sure and thank them - they are about to embark on a very thankless journey. Deep breath, silent prayer, and....begin.
In case you missed it - they are in the Annex at the A&P Shopping Center.
