Phones Down at Toms River Public Works

Crews today trying to have phones back up. Callers must dial direct extension to reach the department.

If you are trying to call the Toms River Public Works Department, an issue with the phones is preventing calls from going through.

Instead, callers should use direct extensions for particular public works desks and staffers, in order to have their calls go through, but callers can leave a message only.

The issue may be solved for tomorrow, but there's no guarantee, said Township Administrator Paul Shives.

The phones are down, just in the public works department, he said. The issue is with a malfunctioning microwave system that carries calls.

"The DPW phone/internet connection is via a microwave system that is down," Shives said. "We are hopeful of having it repaired today, but cannot promise that."

While the phone and internet use at the DPW is down, all other operations and scheduled garbage/recycling pick-ups are unaffected and operating on a normal schedule.

The phones have been down since June 1.

The township sent out an alert this morning detailing which extensions callers should use. Callers should dial the main number for public works, then the extension, then leave a message and await a callback.

Callers can dial 732-341-1000 and dial the extension below that is most appropriate and leave a voicemail.
