Polhemus Won't Debate With Democratic Opponent

Veteran sheriff turns down invitation from Ocean County League of Women Voters

Ocean County Sheriff William L. Polhemus has turned down a request by the Ocean County League of Women Voters for a debate with his Democratic opponent, a league official said.

"It is not going to take place," said OCLWV President Sheila McVeigh.

McVeigh said she sent invitations to Polhemus, route: {:controller=>"articles", :action=>"show", :id=>"county-gop-taps-polhemus-to-run-for-another-term-as-sheriff"} --> and Democrat George "Bob"

@Mac Polhemus is unable to drive, unable to make decisions, unable to come up with an entire sentence that makes sense, and you want to vote him back in? That sounds a bit screwed up to me....I'll bet you're a DemocRAT!
Mac September 20, 2012 at 11:24 PM
How much?
Martin September 20, 2012 at 11:28 PM
"Polhemus could not be reached for comment today. Patch was told he was 'in a meeting'." ...and he'll be "in a meeting" until he makes his concession speech at his bedtime (8 pm) on Nov. 6th. Enjoy retirement, old man.

Did not the article say that Paul Brush was Armstrong's campaign manager?
Johnny September 21, 2012 at 02:01 AM
Yes indeed, How funny is that. Don't matter, recent poll's have Pohlehmus up by a massive amount. Armstrong should not have gotten mixed up with that crew. His old running mates , Brush and Rosen can you imagine?
So Much to Say September 21, 2012 at 02:11 AM
oops my bad
Cardinal September 21, 2012 at 11:29 AM
Would the freeholders be held liable with Polhemus mistakes?
George September 21, 2012 at 12:23 PM
Polhemus is one of the county's mistakes. Let's finally get it right on Nov. 6th.
Mac September 21, 2012 at 03:53 PM
Tonto, that is unlikely. In all fairness, Sheriff Bill has never been held liable for any of the freeholder’s mistakes. Talk about going broke fast.
RPtoTR September 21, 2012 at 04:22 PM
You could not be more correct. You get the government you deserve by blindly voting party line. That goes for both Rep and Dems.
Mac September 21, 2012 at 05:17 PM
I'm under the impression Brush and Rosen are the only two Dems still alive in Ocean County, so Armstrong has little choice if he is looking for that extra vote. All the other votes in the Dems column are from disenchanted real Republicans who are tired of being the minority members of their own party. With so little leadership in the Dem party, the real Republicans have a better chance of establishing some representation of their own while returning Ocean County to a two-party system that can compete against the current ME ME ME Party of GREED!
orlando September 21, 2012 at 06:05 PM
Bill Polhemus is a nice man. The republicans are asking him to run again because he is a lock winner. Don't blame Bill. Blame the system
bayway mike September 21, 2012 at 08:50 PM
If he's voted out (and it seems that he won't), will he able to collect a pension?? He's most likely receiving a pension from his chief-of-police gig, guessing that he also is receiving social security.. This old-timer has to be rolling in the dough..Just saying..
Cardinal September 21, 2012 at 09:04 PM
Romney says People on Social Security Are Victims. What do you say ?

The Cryptkeeper doesn't want to participate in a dabate? What a suprise. Probably couldn't stay awake for an hour.

The cryptkeeper doesn't want to paticipate in a debate? What a suprise. Probably can't stay awake long enough.
the phantom September 22, 2012 at 12:50 AM
If this senile old fart gets relected it just says it all about Ocean County politics!
the phantom September 22, 2012 at 12:54 AM
Barlett was a teacher at High School North. I'm sure Rittacio paid him off.

The County is dirtier than the TR Board of ED
teatleytea September 22, 2012 at 08:19 PM
The phantom, I am not to sure that you statement that the County is dirtier than the TR BOE is true. I think that they tied at in the bottom of the 9th in the 7th game of the World! Series. Did you just hear the latest move that this BOE pulled with some kind of flier that was posted at the Day Care Center at 1144 Hooper Avenue? I heard it on NJ 101.5 and then I heard it again on WOBM and saw the flyer posted on WOBM's website. It was a flyer for a fundraiser for the reelection of Jamie Jubert Gus Kakavas and Jack Reuther. Yes, we are talking about three of the six member who were put on the board while Ritacco was stealing money right under their noses and they claim to have known nothing about it even going on! According to the sound bite on the radio a concerned parent received this flyer home with her child. This parent was so upset that he/she called the Super and the media and made a comment that to them that it seemed that the district learned nothing from Ritacco and that it was business as usual. Well, Roselli sent an e-mail response that he was going to look into it and see if ant taxpayer monies and materials were used. Well, surprise as you would have guessed a few hours later he sent out another e-mail response that said that it was a union flyer and that it was posted for union members only.(what ever that is suppose to mean) Last time I looked 1144 Hooper Avenue was paid for by taxpayer money was it not? That makes it a public building building does it not?
teatleytea September 22, 2012 at 08:42 PM
According to Roselli this is not considered electioneering. How can he not consider this electioneering? You have a flyer that you are asking people who are employees of the district who are union members to come out and support candidates that the UNION and the SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION are OPENLY backing in a taxpayer FUNDED AND OWNED building. If any of the people who are opposing the incumbents wanted to place a flyer in an area like that they would be turned away! They would be told that this is not a place for them to garner votes or supporters. Personally the only way that I see that we are going to rid ourselves of the shadows of Ritacco is to rid the school district from the Administration and yes I do mean from the Superintendent, Assistant Superintendents, on down to the Ritacco 6 who are currently sitting on the BOE! And, I MEAN do A REAL SEARCH for a new Superintendent and not the joke of a search that they did for the one that we have now!!! We the taxpayer are tired of hearing we didn't know, we couldn't know. Well, the taxpayers know and we know that it is time for all of you to be replaced!!!
So Much to Say September 22, 2012 at 09:14 PM
Jamie Jubert Gus Kakavas and Jack Reuther are what's left of the Ritacco era. So we can move on to a better education for our children we need to GET RID OF anyone who had anything to do with Ritacco. LETS VOTE OUT Jamie Jubert Gus Kakavas and Jack Reuther!
So Much to Say September 22, 2012 at 09:18 PM
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2012/09/02/3497857/group-says-it-found-30000-dead.html Maybe someone should compare death records to voter records like in NC. I bet we'll be surprised what is found.
Greg September 23, 2012 at 02:49 AM
Remember this year in the School Board election we can vote out three of the "Ritacco 6" the next year we can get rid of the the rest of the "Ritacco 6". Like it has been posted before this year we can rid the board of Jamie Ann Jubert from South Toms River and then Gus Kakavas and Jack Reuther from Toms River. Then November of 2013 we can rid the board of the last three and they are from Beachwood Ed Gearity, Pine Beach Mike Jedzineak, and Toms River Tom Baxter. Once we get rid of the cancer that has infected this board for over 20 years and that had allowed Ritacco to steal over 2.5 million dollars from our children maybe the district will be able to move on and return itself to the reputation that once had of a school district that provided children with and excellent education and not a district of corruption and me and mine first and forget about the teachers, children and most of all the taxpayers because if I tell them that I am not going to raise their taxes they are going to think that I am wonderful! Isn't that correct Mr. Ritacco? After all wasn't you line "IT'S FOR THE CHILDREN"? Here we go again we have Ritacco going away for 11+ years Frank D'Alonzo following right behind with his sentencing to be within the next month or so and now this flyer circulated around the day care center at 1144 Hooper Ave. I guess the TRRSD will never learn!
Stan Buchwald September 23, 2012 at 11:24 PM
This is,and supposed to be an article about the sleepy sheriff, not the TRBOE race. Take it somewhere else people. Yeesh!
Wyatt Earp September 25, 2012 at 12:49 PM
Come on, do we even need a young Sheriff much less one that's almost 100? What does a competent Sheriff really do anyway? What is this, the OK Corral? Seriously, Polhemus is pobably knockin down 150k plus a monster pension. (Not available on Data Universe because he's voted in!!) What could he possibly do on his busiest, most productive day?? Imagine documenting this guys day at work on an hourly basis? Wake up, milk and cookies, nap, somebody props him up, drives him past the "Sheriif's office" DUH....then back home for a nap! In a real job, Polhemus is a leaker. A profit drain! A liability. How could he hold anyone accountable with a straight face!! The poor guy doesn't even know he's milked this thing 30 years too long. What a damm shame! Give a young guy a shot at this dumb needless job!
riverfest October 26, 2012 at 07:45 PM
polhemus cannot even get to the polls to vote for himself ! he needs assistance to cast his ballot - i'm betting he doesn't even vote this year or someone else filled out a mail in ballot for him !
Clause October 26, 2012 at 07:59 PM
What do you mean on his most productive day? He is proud of the boom boom he let's ride in his depends on a good. Come on now.
Balnicky October 26, 2012 at 08:11 PM
You got that right. They showed him the polls. It showed Bartlett, Little and Polhemus so far ahead that he can do nothing, and still win big. Take that to the bank. You are in very Red Ocean County in a Presidential election.
George October 26, 2012 at 08:20 PM
A statewide newspaper revealed he collected a million bucks on his pension -- so far. Why doesn't the gov. comment on this double-dipper old gipper?
