Residents To Appear At Toms River Council, Seek…

Reassessments Cost Township $134,288 in Tax Revenue

Lacey received reassessment requests for 295 residential properties, 82 of which were deemed at least 50 percent damaged

Following the devastation that Sandy wreaked on Lacey, 82 homes were deemed at least 50 percent damaged, costing the township $134,288 in tax revenue, Township Administrator and Municipal Clerk Veronica Laureigh said.

Lacey homeowners were able to file for reassessment after Hurricane Sandy. The township received notices for 295 residential properties, 28 percent of which met the threshold to qualify for a reassessment, Laureigh said.

“The assessment of the property will be lowered based on the calculation provided by the tax assessor and the resident would therefore see a reduction in their tax bill as of Aug. 1,” Laureigh said. “They would pay a reduced amount on the improvement value not the property value.”

The total reduction amount of the tax adjustments is approximately $8.873 million. Taxes lost based on last year’s rate are approximately $134,288, she said.

The township will have to consider the lower assessment moving forward in the 2013-14 budget process, she said.

“The lesser assessment will be lower and we look at that as to what we need to raise in order to support the budget,” Laureigh said.

Once homeowners make repairs to their homes, the assessment will be reviewed and will be brought back to 100 percent or could reflect a higher assessment if the improvements are worth more than the original condition of the home, Laureigh said.

“Residents should move along with getting their houses livable,” she said.

Once completed, the tax assessor’s office will re-inspect those homes, she said.

My blow hard is no different than your blow hard. I pay my taxes like everyone else, so me sending my kids to public schools is my right. Not sure of the implication but if it's because I make/made more than you ever did, are you implying that I should send my kids to private school? My kids had some great teachers, some o.k. teachers and some cruddy teachers here in Lacey....no different than any other town for the most part. So what is your point?

Your intelligence quotient and sophomoric digs at me just roll off my back. Your anxiety and annoyance is clear to all in your responses. People who resort to name calling lack an ability to to have in intelligent conversation with folks and show a further inability to think and act like a normal person. As far as other towns and complaints, again you miss the point. You are like a child who has to repeatedly be told the same thing over and over because they only want to hear what they want to hear and see what they want to see so that they can say that they are right....you are acting like a child. That being said, I don't ever agree on all points of anyone serving in office, but as a whole, look at the overall job they are doing. Christie is BY FAR, the best Governor we have had in a LONG time and certainly better than the person that occupied office before Christie......you know, the guy that got the state further into debt, then could not answer a simple question as to what happened to client money at MF Global...the guy who headed up the firm?

As I mentioned before, as a flag carrying NJEA member, no one will ever convince you that Christie has done a great job since he was elected. BTW, 3/4 of New Jerseans think he is has well (http://www.nj.com/politics/index.ssf/2013/02/poll_christie_approval_rating.html). So, your homework for today is to read this latest poll. 74% think he should be re-elected...you don't EVER see that...and you don't get to that kind of approval rating in this State...a Democratic leaning state, without having some Dems feeling that way as well. At least be honest that Christie is MUCH better than Corzine. If you can't even be honest in that, then there really is no point in discussing anything further with you.
