Ritacco Arrives With Attorneys in Federal Court for Sentencing

Former superintendent will be sentenced today

Proceedings began at 10 a.m. for the sentencing of former Toms River Regional Schools Superintendent Michael Ritacco on federal charges.

Ritacco, dressed in a black suit, arrived with his counsel, Jerome A. Ballaratto and William J. Hughes.

Proceedings began shortly at 10 a.m., with Ritacco seated between this two attorneys, his right hand sometimes resting on his face and chin, as sentencing Judge Joel Pisano explained the parameters of sentencing guidelines.

At 10:15 a.m. Ballaratto began to discuss Ritacco's contribution to the community, suggesting a 60 month sentence.

Multiple supporters have so far come out in support of Ritacco. Several members of Ritacco's family, as well as about 20 other individuals from the public are in the courtroom audience.

Pisano believes the number is closer to 2million... not 1 million.. So... that will increase years in jail.
JD September 14, 2012 at 04:34 PM
Pisano... Very difficult to determine what resitition should be as he showered friends with cash and gifts... What about jobs in the TRRS?? Those are the TR BOE members... that is how they got rewarded!

Kevin Smith spoke of behalf of ritacco. One a-hole sticking up for another.

I smelled a rat when in February 2010 that former athletic director was arrested out of state and it seemed odd that someone would leave NJ and give up a good job like a school athletic director, something didn't quite add up.

Pisano is now detailing the dollar amounts he suspects passed hands throughout the years. He decries Ritacco for somehow managing to serve as superintendent, business administrator for the district, while running his own construction company.

Ritacco did a land transaction with Bellu... Turned around and parceled the land to Cardone and Cranston and himself... and built the homes for Cardone and Cranston...

Anyone there on his behalf, with the exception of his family, should be investigated. As a tax payer in TR I am furious that any would be ther in support of such a crook!
JD September 14, 2012 at 04:51 PM
135 months.... 11 years...

It's time to start looking into all the superintendents roles and they will find many more doing the same things. He's the only one to get caught. Every school district should call for audits of their Superintendents and now.

I agree wholeheartedly. Every school should be audited. All Superintendents Business Administrators and BOE should be included in the investigations. Personally, I feel James Habel was a horrible Superintendent who only cared about his own well being. But the BOE is also guilty for allowing all the nonsense to go on. The BOE members seem to forget they were voted in by the residents who live in the town, they were chosen to make sure they are doing the right thing for every student in their schools, tax payers with in the community not for the Superintendent. If something is NOT right, they have to speak up and not allow for it to continue. I agree he is one of a few that has been caught. There is to many getting away with to much and I doubt if it came out of any one of these BOE own pocket they would be allowing what they have. They would be singing a different tune. It is so easy to spend others money!

Possibly Wall's Administrator too!
Joan September 16, 2012 at 04:02 PM
And Long Branch...Just look in to all the schools.
Joan September 16, 2012 at 04:03 PM
Why would they care? They were all benefiting by Dadio MK along with his entourage.

Don't forget his own food business at the once Ritacco Center, To have no receipts for years, how much was he receiving from that. I am sure he purchased all his personal items with cash.... Furniture Stores, Cars, Clothes...How dumb of him to go in to a furniture with a Wade of Cash... He should have been better off buying a piece at a time... I also don't understand were Chris Christies is in all this. How come he never mentioned or said anything with the big mouth he has... He has plenty to say about other superintendents, nothing on him... that is guilt right there from our governor. I guess he is looking away like all the rest has been for years.
Joan September 16, 2012 at 04:10 PM
I think it is even more than 2 million, there was an awful a lot of corruption going on.
Joan September 16, 2012 at 04:15 PM
