School Board Meeting Tonight To Discuss Candidate Flyer, Energy Conservation and More

Public session begins 7:30 p.m. at High School North

An issue where a candidate flyer was distributed on school grounds, a possible campaigning violation, is among the items planned for discussion at tonight's Toms River Regional School Board meeting.

The public session will begin 7:30 p.m. at Toms River High School North, though executive session for the nine-member board begins at 6 p.m.

At a special meeting Friday, Superintendent Frank Roselli said a September incident, where at multiple schools a candidate political event flyer was posted on bulletin boards and allegedly passed among employees, would be discussed at the Oct. 16 meeting. The flyer calls for supporters to attend a political fundraiser for incumbents Jack Reuther, Gus Kakavas and Jamie Jubert.

Roselli said the matter would be discussed at the regularly scheduled Oct. 16 meeting of the school board, and he urged Kathy Eagan, Toms River Education Association union president, to make a statement that evening about the incident, as the flyer was spread through union members.

In addition, tonight's meeting will approve how a new energy conservation plan would be administered at Toms River Regional facilities.

Also on the agenda is the plans to take a portion of the Toms River High School North library and add a special instruction room there. The room would accommodate 12 students, according to the plans, which also has to be approved by the state Department of Education.

The meeting will also celebrate recent student achievements, giving out awards for scholastic, civic and athletic honors. The three high school student representatives will provide a monthly report, and the night's business agenda, here, will ask for bills and personnel matters to be approved.
