Some in Mantoloking Can Go Home Friday

But residents need town approval first

Some Mantoloking residents can go home on Friday, but only if they meet a series of the town's requirements.

"We are ready to repopulate," says the town's website. "A big day for some and a bittersweet day for those of us who have lost homes or have significantly damaged houses."

The statement is a stark reminder that many residents cannot return home because their homes are gone, condemned or still so badly damaged from Superstorm Sandy that they are not yet habitable.

The website notes that Gov. Christie sent the town "a very nice letter concerning repopulation. Please see Governor Christie’s letter here: Christie Letter."

Regarding what to do to begin the process of repopulation, the first step is "to make sure all utilities have been restored with the required certifications and/or permits and that those documents are on file with the borough."

Lets never forget these words - governors, elected representatives in the government, senators and ,Presidents(and elected local officials)are elected TO SERVE - THAT 's their reason to exist! TO SERVE

Yes, you are correct. TO SERVE THEMSELVES.

What an odd photo choice to go with this article. Obviously, the owner of the home in the photo cannot repopulate. Maybe the Patch could use a photo of a home that wasn't so severely damaged, one that the homeowners can repopulate? The Mantoloking residents have suffered enough. Let's try to give them some inspiration that at least some of them can return home.

Nick, I can guarantee that the residents of Mantoloking are not basing their decision on whether they can repopulate based on photos in Patch. They have to be approved by the town before they can repopulate, as the story clearly reports. Some cannot populate due to severe damage to homes, hence the use of the photos of severe damage to homes. Matches perfectly. Thank you for reading Patch!

Yes, you are correct...TO SERVE THEMSELVES and I am right behind you in leaving NJ for good....Maybe we can leave all those who serve themselves start paying for themselves.
