Temporary Dune Sand on the Way to Ortley Beach

Many of the township's beaches now have a temporary protective dune

Sand that will form temporary dunes to protect Toms River's oceanfront until a federal beach replenishment project gets underway next June will likely be delivered to most of the township's beaches by the end of the day Friday.

The trucked-in sand has been delivered to many of the northern beaches, Councilwoman Maria Maruca said this week. By the end of the day Friday, the sand should be delivered to Ortley Beach.

The township is building the temporary dunes at all of its public beaches as well as in front of properties where easements to allow the federal project to move forward have been signed.

Maruca said the Surf Condos in Ortley Beach have indicated they would sign an easement, though the document was not in-hand by Tuesday's township council meeting. If the homeowners association signs, the dune can be constructed across all of Ortley.

The Vision Beach community at the southernmost tip of Ortley Beach has signed an easement, Maruca said.
