Toms River Allocates $300K For Police, Township Vehicles

Jeeps, Chargers and two motorcycles among the vehicles being purchased

Toms River officials on Tuesday authorized the purchase of vehicles for several municipal departments under separate resolutions that add up to $312,798.

The council voted to buy seven 2014 Jeep Patriot corssovers worth $132,062 off a state contract with Hertrich Fleet Services. Five of the Jeeps will be assigned to several administrative departments, including Information Technology, Building Inspection, Code Enforcement and Administration. Two will be assigned to the Recreation Department. The vehicles will replace others than have over 100,000 miles, are more than 10 years old or are in disrepair, officials said.

The Department of Parks, Buildings and Grounds will be receiving a 2014 Ford Super Duty Pickup with dump body worth $43,371. That vehicle will be purchased off a state contract with Beyer Ford.

The township will also purchase five new police cars, all 2014 Dodge Chargers, off a state contract with Carman Dodge, of Delaware, worth $116,877.

Additionaly, the police department will be receiving two new, 2014 Harley-Davidson motorcycles for $20,488 from Harley Davidson of Long Branch, the only bidder that met the specifications required by the township for the purchase. The police department will trade in two 2008 Harley-Davidsons to defray the cost.

The township council also allocated $68,055 to purchase electronic equipment for police cars, however the funding for the electronics will be provided through a state grant.
