Toms River Council, BOE Seats Up For Grabs Today

Toms River police chief also running in Ocean County Sheriff's race

Four Democrats are challenging four incumbent Republicans for seats on the Toms River Township council while one seat is up for grabs on the Toms River Regional Board of Education.

Democrats Paul Brush, Linda Stevens, Gary Clifton and Eli Eytan are seeking to oust Republicans Maria Maruca, Jeffrey Carr, Brian Kubiel and Alfonso Manforti for four-year terms on the township council.

James G. Sigurdson, Joyce Blair and Robert Onofrietti, Jr., are each vying for a single three-year term on the school board. None of the three currently occupy a seat on the board.

Toms River residents will also choose to re-elect Republicans Jim Holzapfel, Dave Wolfe or Gregory McGuckin to Senate and Assembly seats, respectively, or choose their Democratic challengers, John Bendel, Susan Kane and Amber Gesslein.

Toms River Police Chief Michael Mastronardy, a Republican, is facing off against fellow Toms River resident and retired federal law enforcement officer George "Bob" Armstrong to serve as Ocean County Sheriff, while incumbent Republican Surrogate Jeffrey W. Moran is facing off against Democrat Michael Collins.

Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.
