Gigi Esparza beats Jubert.... It's a good start for TRRS... 1 down... 2 more to go..
Steve Walsh November 07, 2012 at 04:34 AM
Thank you Jubert for your service to our community. You will be missed.
JD November 07, 2012 at 04:44 AM
Ur kidding me... She will be missed for allowing Ritacco to steal $2million... She will be missed for allowing the education at TRRS decline... She will be missed for hiring unqualified/substandard friends and relatives to positions...
Fedup November 07, 2012 at 04:57 AM
Jack is history, Gus isn't far behind. The "true" end of the Ritacco era is here.
JD November 07, 2012 at 05:02 AM
Baxter, Gearity, Jazieniak need to go also... then that is the end of the Ritacco era... they come up in 2013.. Baxter is probably not running as he gave $8500 from his campaign fund to Kakavas and Ruether.

Amazing. What facts do you have to base your comments regarding teachers? I suppose your child's teacher or the teacher of your neighbor's child who spends his/her own money to buy supplies/decorations and spends countless hours researching new curricula to assure that his/her students have success on state tests and ultimately have success in life is "substandard." Go to any business, school etc and you will find the effects of nepotism etc. Accountability of teachers is the key here, not blame for one's very poor decisions and ethics. TRRS has many great, dedicated teachers, some hired during Ritacco's tenure and some not. Do your homework before you start bashing TRRS teachers. Both my children earned high honors at TRRS and graduated at the top of their classes at prestigious universities. Regardless of how they were hired, their teachers were instrumental in my children's successes.
Ken November 07, 2012 at 05:13 AM
Glad your children did so well, but fact is many graduates from Tomss River schools including those in honors classes need to take remedial classes when they get to colleges. Toms River schools have been going down hill for some time now. They used to be good schools at one time, but no more.
JD November 07, 2012 at 05:20 AM
Facts.... where do I start... Regarding recent teacher hires... 1/3 had below 3.0 GPA in college... they were hired because they knew someone in the district... i've got their resumes and transcripts. TRRS High school rankings... have declined the past 10 years... they use to be ranked from the 50th to 60th percentile and are now in the 30th to 40th percentile... Test scores have gone down throughout the district.. These days... students of TRRS have a harder time getting into top colleges... Based upon my experiences... I would say 20% of the teachers need to be replaced... Not only does there need to be accountability of teachers... but with administrators... You just can't make this stuff up!!!
Josie noman November 07, 2012 at 12:16 PM
Exactly, all under the crook need to go! They should just walk away now why let them continue until term is up. Anyone involved with insurance on the board should go from now.
chtulu2000 November 07, 2012 at 02:14 PM
Ken..and that is entirely the fault of the staff? Students at the high school level are placed in classes they do not belong in all of the time. There is a thought in the schools about the classes...AP is really Honors, Honors is really College Prep, College Prep is really General Studies, General Studies is really Special Ed, and Special Ed is really the Alternative School. When you have gotten rid of your prerequisites for classes and anyone can take an AP class, or anyone can take an Honors class with a C or even a D in the previous year, there is something flawed with the system, and it's not simply blame the teachers. I do not disagree with JD that hiring a teacher with below at least a 3.0 is a good idea, however we also have look at other issues in this district and the classrooms...not simply paint a broad stroke picture blaming the teaching staff.
JD November 07, 2012 at 02:45 PM
chutula... you are spot on in your analysis... regarding... AP is really Honors, etc... Hiring is part of the problem.... but lack of accountability for administrators as well as teachers is the primary problem... Really... how can Roselli be promoted while during his tenure as Assistant Super, all the HS rankings, scores, etc went down... how can Hauenstein be promoted to A.S., when while principle at North... scores and ranking decreased and he didn't make AYP for 8 years straight... according to Fed Guidelines, the principle/admin needs to be replaced after 6yrs.... meaning demoted... not promoted..

You were able to get their resumes and test scores? That's actually good news, JD, because I suspect my current doctor barely got his MD. Insurance constraints and the limited choices around the area kind of beholden me to go to him or take a long trek. I mean a lot of people rave about him, but I just don't see it. So do you have more information on how to get these records in the private sector? I also wouldn't mind the records of the new elected officials, our Congressmen for starters, definitely the sheriff, and, come to think, the new and incumbent board members. I mean... what gives them the qualifications to oversee education on any level? At least educators undergo formal evaluations like 3 -5 times a year (5 for the new ones), have their kid's test scores made public, and of course are held responsible every day by the parents- not to mention owning at least some degree and being required to earn I think they said 25 professional development hours a year or something. I'm a little fuzzier on administrators besides the public eye, of course. Just wondering how the board is evaluated, stays current, heck even stays informed to begin with. How informed are they? What prevents corruption? And if their GPAs are below 3.0, I REALLY don't want them making big decisions for our district, you know?
Chris W. November 07, 2012 at 05:04 PM
People should stop blaming the teachers all the time and start looking at themselves. Too many parents think they should not be part of their children's education and that is all up to the teachers. Yes, I will agree that there are teachers that got their positions because of who they knew and this is a problem. I also know that there are many teachers that went through the years of substituting in the district as they watched people walk out of college and get positions. Just remember that there are many qualified teachers out there that truly paid their dues, had the good college grades and deserve to be respected for what they do everyday.

WTF!!! Can't believe that Polehemus was re-elected!! It makes me want to PUKE!! OOPS!! I just did!!!
Ken November 07, 2012 at 09:23 PM
chtulu2000.... It may not be all the teachers fault, but the fact you have a lot of sub par teachers does not help. I am not saying all are sub par , but a lot are. Also since they are teachers isn't their job to teach. Yes parents do need to get involved and need to help their children and make sure the children do their work, but the teachers do need to know how to teach.
