Toms River School Board to Hold Special Meetings in March for Budget, State Board

The Toms River Regional School Board is readying its 2012-13 budget and has scheduled special meetings and hearings in March as the process unfolds.

The board also is holding a subcommittee meeting Wednesday, March 7, which will feature a presentation and discussion by the New Jersey School Boards Association. The policy subcommittee will meet at 6:30 p.m. March 7 at the Toms River Regional Administrative Offices, .

The NJ School Boards Association was invited by the district to make a presentation and lead discussion on school board governance.

The school district recently began exploring its policies on how to run meetings and how to govern itself with greater transparency, Superintendent Frank Roselli said. For example, the board recently decided to add another public comment session to its regular meeting, allowing the public to comment before the business agenda as well as at the end of the meeting.

School Budget Process Underway

Then on March 8, the school board will meet at to decide whether to send a proposed 2012-13 school budget to the for review.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in executive session, and opens for public session at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting will formalize the submission of the 2012-13 budget to the county office.

This is the first budget under a new system where the school is not in the hands of voters.

The school board to keep the budget under the 2 percent cap, in order to move the board candidates' election to .

A hearing on the budget, once reviewed by the county, will be open to the public before the district votes on the budget..

Toms River Regional — whose school district is made up of taxpayers in Toms River, Pine Beach, South Toms River and Beachwood — will hold its public hearing on the budget on March 28 at High School North.

The regular portion of the meeting will start at 7:30 p.m.

In addition, the district has scheduled the following for March:

• Budget and Finance committee, 6:30 p.m. Tuesday March 13 in Toms River Regional Administrative Offices, Conference Room A.
• Building & Grounds committee, 7 p.m. Tuesday March 13, Toms River Regional Administrative Offices, Conference Room A.
• Regular Board meeting, 6:15 p.m. executive session and 7:30 p.m. public session on March 20, High School North.
