Utility Pole Replacement Started in Ortley Beach

Utility pole replacement in Ortley Beach has begun at the southernmost portion of Harding Avenue, according to JCP&L.

The utility company has been working since Feb. 1 to replace poles damaged by Superstorm Sandy, working from the south to the north, according to an alert sent by Toms River officials. Service will be restored to those areas without power as lines are replaced.

"It is important to note that JCP&L will install the new poles and extend the power lines as far east as possible but there will be some areas that will not be able to be serviced at this time due to the conditions on the ground," reads a statement issued by the township.

Some residents were allowed to return to their Ortley homes on Feb. 4 provided that they have all of their utilities restored. Some areas, however, remain unsuitable for repopulation at this time.

Township officials said that residents should make sure they have had the proper inspections before their utility services are turned on and are advised to contact the providers with any reconnection issues. 

Mayor Thomas Kelaher said that residents should check with the township website's Ortley section to ensure they find the correct information regarding returning home.
