Woman Indicted for Vehicular Homicide for Passenger's Death

24-year-old indicted this week for May 12 incident at Route 37 Stop and Shop

Laura Nelson, 24, of Woodthrush Court, Marlton, was charged with vehicular homicide in the May 12, 2010 one-car accident in Toms River that claimed the life of 40-year-old Kelly Walck of Haddonfield.

Nelson’s 1999 Toyota left Route 37 and slammed into a utility pole at the Stop and Shop Shopping Center, police said. Walck was a passenger in the car.

Nelson is free on $75,000 bail. The grand jury charged her with driving recklessly and causing Walck’s death.

The following indictments were also among those handed down by Ocean County grand jury this week:

  • Joseph Granberg, 41, of Stanford Drive, Toms River, charged with violating the terms of his community supervision for life Aug. 10, 2010 in Berkeley Township by having a firearm and failing to tell his parole officer he had been arrested Aug. 6.
  • Gerald J. Muchanic Jr., 48, of Georgia Tavern Road, Howell, accused of breaking into and stealing a 2004 Lincoln Navigator owned by James Sonner on Oct. 16 in Beachwood. He is also accused of receiving stolen property.
  • Charles T. Rice, 49, of Serene Way, Toms River, charged with a March 8, 2010 aggravated assault on Dawn Lagnese in Toms River and threatening to kill her.
  • Martin E. Rafferty Jr., 37, Brigantine Boulevard, Waretown, charged with being an unregistered home improvement contractor in Manchester Aug. 30.
  • Tyler J. Aponte, 19, of Forge Pond Road and Zachary M. Fernandez, 19, of Bay Harbor Boulevard, both of Brick, charged with breaking into seven vehicles there between Aug. 28 and 31 and stealing two Ipods and two GPS units.
