Apartment Complex on Route 9

This Thursday, November 21st at 7:00 PM, the Board of Adjustment will vote on a use variance for the proposed 252-unit Pleasant Plains apartment complex.

The property is zoned rural highway business which allows for multi-family development on half of the site with the other being commercial. To qualify for a use variance, you have to prove that your property has a hardship. The owner has stated that he has been unable to find a buyer for the commercial so he would like to develop the property as multi-family residential- being unable to sell your property in a recession is not a reason to grant a use variance

The present developers are also attempting to circumvent our elected officials and change our master plan without their approval. Any major change to the master plan should first be heard by the Planning Board and then voted on by the town council.

If this application is approved it will effectively rewrite the town's master plan and open up the flood gates to multi-family development along Rt 9. The owner will walk away with a nice profit and the taxpayers of this town will be left with traffic gird-lock and higher taxes
.

Come out this Thursday night and help us say "No"
