Bring An End to Runaway Spending

At a recent Toms River Council meeting, residents stood up during the public session to ask the question: "Why did my taxes go up thousands of dollars?"

The Township Business Administrator told the people that it had nothing to do  with Sandy, but was the result of another property tax reassessment. Although this is probably another flawed reassessment, the obvious reason was never discussed- runaway spending and borrowing. The best way to lower taxes is to spend less money.

In the last eight years, the all Republican Council has increased the Municipal Budget by 57% while increasing our bond debt to almost $160 million.

The Restore the Trust Team of Linda Stevens(Ward 1), Paul Brush (Ward 2), Gary Clifton (Ward 3) and Eli Eytan (Ward 4) promise to end this problem by:

Conducting a township-wide audit to identify wasteful spending and eliminate duplication of government services.

Eliminating the patronage-ridden MUA and combine it with the Public Works Department.

As an added bonus, your sewer fee would now be tax-deductible because it would be part of your property tax bill.

Eliminating health benefits for the Township Council.

Suspending the current Open Space Tax until we recover from "Sandy"

Ending borrowing millions to fund pet projects like the "Girls Softball Complex"
