Attorney Appointment Expected at Special Tuesday BOE Meeting

Board did not appoint attorney at Jan. 3 reorganization meeting

The Board of Education will hold a special meeting on Tuesday so members can interview prospective candidates for attorney positions.

After some controversy, members did not appoint a board attorney or labor attorney at their Jan. 3 reorganization meeting. Members agreed to hold interviews with those in consideration for the positions.

As such, the special meeting to be held at Toms River High School North will begin with an executive session beginning at 5:30 p.m. That session is expected to continue until about 8 p.m. as the board conducts "interviews and deliberations regarding professional contracts and other business," the meeting announcement states.

Formal action, including the appointments, would take place after the executive session has concluded.

Members are also expected to discuss whether the district should use a pool of engineers or one firm exclusively.

It originally appeared that board members would meet at school district offices on Hooper Avenue, but the venue was changed to High School North to provide more space for an audience.
