Bias Awareness Workshops at OCC

Ocean County College’s Office of Student Life and Office of Multicultural Services along with the Ocean County Human Relations Commission will cosponsor Dr. Maura Cullen: Cross-cultural Coalition Building – Bias Awareness Training on Thursday, April 19 in the Black Box Theater, Arts & Community Center (Bldg. #18), OCC Main Campus, College Drive, Toms River, NJ.

This full day of workshops will feature the following topics:

9:00 a.m. – Welcome & Introduction: Richard Biolsi, Chair, Human Relations Commission

9:30 a.m. – Dumb Things Well-Intended People Say / 10 Skills to Increase Your Diversity Competence: Many of our conversations around diversity have us walking on eggshells.  This program offers practical ways to quickly transform the quality and effectiveness of our interactions.

11 a.m. – Taking Adversity out of Diversity / Building Inclusive Organizations: This engaging program will inspire people to create more inclusive communities.  Get beyond the fear of saying the “wrong” thing and learn more effective and compassionate ways to connect.

12:30 p.m. – Light Reception

2 p.m. – Mr. Fix-It & Friends Go to Diversity Training: This session will identify non-productive behaviors that diminish the group’s effectiveness and offer alternatives that will dramatically transform the group dynamics.
