Blue Water Week Celebration

Seaside Park Community Education along with the Seaside Park PTA will be helping to celebrate the traditional Blue Water Week with an evening of education & fun!  On hand will be Ocean County’s Cattus Island; Clean Ocean Action; & Pat Kingman, a retired Oceanography teacher.  Plenty of information; hands on activities for all ages!  Help raise awareness about our environment and the dangers of pollution to our bay & ocean!

The program begins at 5pm with Cattus Island Park’s Chief Naturalist, Chris Claus at the Seaside Park 5th Ave pier who will give an exciting, interactive look at what lives beneath the waves!  Waders will be provided so that participants can pull a 30ft net through the water.  The process is known as seining and is as old as recorded history.  Fish, crustaceans, and plants of many different types usually end up in the net.

Clean Ocean Action will use an Enviroscape to illustrate how pollution gets to the marine environment.  The Enviroscape is a model of a watershed that is used to help students understand the path of pollution.

Pat Kingman, a retired Oceanography teacher, will present “Beachcomber’s Delight, a marine adventure.  Mrs. Kingman will display many “treasures” she has found strolling beaches from Sandy Hook to Cape May.   You will be amazed by the coastal delights which have been collected along our shoreline!

Local children will be creating “fish hats” to raise awareness about coastal pollution and its effects on our waterways, beaches & sea life.  The “fish hats” will be worn at the annual Fish Hat Parade sponsored by the Seaside Park PTA.  The parade is scheduled for June 9th at 10am at the Seaside Park Marina Lawn J St & Central Ave.  The parade will be led by the Central Regional HS Marching Band!
