Interim School District Administrator Contracts Slated for Approval Tuesday

Interim superintendent and assistant superintendent begin in Toms River on Aug. 1

Education officials are slated to approve the contracts of Toms River Regional’s interim superintendent and an assistant superintendent Tuesday night.

The contracts for the two interim central administrators will come before Board of Education members during the public portion of their meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at High School North.

Thomas Gialanella was approved to a five-month interim superintendent post, and will begin work in Toms River on Aug. 1, 30 days after completing his contract with Jackson, according to officials.

Under the terms of the contract, Gialanella will be paid $650 per work day and given use of a district cell phone. He will not be entitled to medical benefits or any paid personal time off.

James Hauenstein, an assistant superintendent already employed by the district, was appointed interim superintendent for the month of July, filling the gap between Frank Roselli’s June 30 retirement and Gialanella’s start date.

Like Gialanella, incoming interim assistant superintendent Dr. Marianne Gaffney will assume her post beginning in August. Because of a month gap, current Interim Assistant Superintendent Joseph Pizza was approved for a one month contract extension through July.

Gaffney, like Pizza, will be paid $500 per work day and given use of a district cell phone. She will not be entitled to medical benefits or any paid personal time off.

Both contracts were reviewed and approved by the Ocean County Superintendent.

The meeting agenda, which also contains approval for a change in the tax rate because of newly incoming emergency funding due to Superstorm Sandy damage, is available on the district’s website.
