Mariners Claim Top Spot in Quiz Show Fundraiser

$500 grand prize was awarded to Toms River in second annual tournament

Students from Toms River North took home the grand prize at the recent Senior Vs. Senior Jeopardy! fundraiser sponsored by a Lakewood continuing care community. 

The Mariner team claimed the $500 grand prize by defeating students from Brick Township High School and the Harrogate Hotshots, a group of residents from the Harrogate retirement community. The prize money will be given to High School North's Honor Society, according to Amber Schilberg, public relations account manager.

"For the second year in a row we have been fortunate enough to see our community come together a support such a great cause," said Don Johansen, executive director at Harrogate, in a statement. "As strong supporters of continued education, we know the importance of students attending college, furthering their education and pursuing their dreams. We are honored to help with the pursuit of their goals."

About 100 residents from Ocean County attended the second annual fundraiser and generated funds, which were equally divided among the three participating teams. WOBM radio personalities Shawn Michaels and Sue Moll served as the masters of ceremonies and hosted the game, Schilberg said.

High School North's winning squad included members Abhishek Gupta, Raagni Kumar, Lauren McGowan, Janis Tumaliuan, Josh Musicant and Michael Pavliv.

Harrogate is a nonprofit community with 275 independent living apartment homes and 68 skilled nursing beds in operation since 1988.
