School Board To Meet Tonight, Members To Change Vote After Conflict of Interest

Tonight's agenda includes revoting on contracts. Longtime Asst. Super Cardone expected to announce retirement.

Several school board members may change their votes tonight after it was discovered recently they voted to approve school board contracts with a conflict of interest.

At the June Toms River Regional School Board meeting, board members Jamie Ann Jubert, Gus Kavakas, Thomas Baxter and Board President Edward F. Gearity voted on contracts such as the business administrator and superintendent contracts.

Previously, the four abstained from voting on teachers’ contracts because they had relatives employed in the district.

The vote change is expected to come at tonight’s board of education meeting.

The Toms River Regional Schools Board of Education is scheduled to meet publically at 7:30 p.m. at Toms River High School North auditorium, although the board often convenes at 6:15 p.m. to discuss matters in executive session before returning to a public meeting.

In addition to an agenda approving the fall coaching assignments, tonight’s board of education meeting also includes the resignation of Assistant Superintendent William Cardone, who has worked for the district for 40 years.

How can these BOE members keep doing the same thing (hiring relatives) and rejecting the best qualified candidates.
Pat July 25, 2011 at 12:07 AM
You are right about rejecting the best qualified candidates like Joe Pizza!
