Toms River Girl Scouts Chosen to Attend United Nations Conference

As submitted by Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore

Four local Girls Scouts recently attended the 58th session of the Commission on the Status of Women at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.  The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore, along with only three other Girl Scout councils, were selected amongst more than 100 Girl Scout councils throughout the United States to participate. Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore members Emma Brushaber (Point Pleasant), Kristin Ramsey (Toms River), Lynnette Ramsey (Toms River) and Pallavi Kawatra (Oakhurst) participated in workshops and discussions with 6,000 other women from around the world.

In addition, the girls were part of the contingent to discuss challenges and achievements in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals for women and girls. They reviewed access and participation of women and girls to education, training, and science and technology, including the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work. Representatives of Member States, UN entities and accredited non-governmental organizations (NGOs) from all regions of the world were in attendance.
