Toms River Schools Closed Through Friday

Facilities used as shelters

Toms River Regional Schools will remain closed through at least Friday due to the massive effects of Hurricane Sandy.

Through an automated message to parents and staff, Toms River Regional announced yesterday that schools would be closed Thursday and Friday.

Three schools are being used as evacuation shelters for the storm. Evacuees have filled Toms River High School North in the Pine Belt Arena, Toms River High School East and Toms River Intermediate East.

At other school facilities, a loss of power continued through Thursday, one of tens of thousands of JCP&L customers without power in Toms River.

Facilities are also seeing damage such as felled trees on school property. Road conditions at bus stops throughout town continue to present an emergency situation. At Toms River Intermediate East, the Bennett sports complex has collapsed.

No snow days exist in the current school calendar.

The school district website remained inoperable since Tuesday evening.

I think we have to give a shout out to the Toms river school district and their emploees. Just a few stories.... How about the TRANSPORTATION DEPARTMENT! from Margaret , Eileen down through all the drivers and mechanics. I see those buses EVERYWHERE whether it be with people or supplies. The cafeteria manager Rosa who used to be at High School East coming back and donating her time and talents to those stranded. Her husband even offered free haircuts. I also hear that Joe Arminio is kind of a wiz in the kitchen. These are just a few of he stories that the dedicated people of TR Schools who are offering their time and talents. And thent here are those who want to outsource support services. Think of the chaos if thiese were not school employees.

I didn't want to stain the above comment with talk of the election. I have not heard of ONE THING that the supposed "UNCLEAN SLATE" are doing for the district. They are however still running their campaign ads. LOSERS
