Hurricane Sandy Donations, for who?

Are the real victims of Hurricane Sandy getting help from all the fundraisers that are going on, or are the fundrasing organzations and "career dependent" taking advantage of generosity?

I know that I have always been a skeptic; I always feel that the numerous fundraisers, jars on counters for the unfortunate, giving campaigns, non-profit fundraising organizations, and especially the Red Cross, never really go to the real impacted victims of any disaster but rather the "career poor" or "career scammers" or over-paid CEO’s, and executive staff of the many professional so called non-profit fundraising organizations.

When I see the pictures on TV and in Newspapers of the people that show up for a free meal, free gas, free anything because of the impact of Hurricane Sandy I always wonder; are these really the victims of Hurricane Sandy or are they the ones that always feel that they are a victim no matter what the catastrophe is and will take advantage of the situation. They are the same people that would be in line for a free turkey or handout even if there was never a hurricane.

I realize that the money being raised is not just for the Tom’s River, Seaside, Ortley, Lavallette areas, etc and that Northern and parts of Southern New Jersey was impacted in neighborhoods who never saw it coming, and have a lot more poor and low income housing and probably do need help and hopefully those real victims are getting some help from these organizations.

I understand that if everyone out there was as skeptical as I me, that there would be deserving people that would not get assistance.

I would love to hear feedback and to honestly find out where all the money that has been raised from various Hurricane Sandy Releif is going, especially in this area?

I don't know anyone, out of all my friends and family who have been seriously impacted, and I mean seriously, whom are all homeless, lost precious personal belongings, destroyed business's, hundreds of thousands of dollars in lost inventory and assets, home repairs, personal and business vehicles destroyed, and their ability to continue to make a living for a long period of time until they are able to gain complete and un-mandated access to the barrier island and most of all the horrible mental anguish of the lost normalcy of their lives, whom all have lived in the area for years, 30 and 40+.

Out of all these people I know personally, roughly 25 or more, not one of them is looking for used clothing, bottled water or free meals. None of those I know have been offered any kind of help what-so-ever, either monetary or in volunteer help in getting back on their feet. I also want to mention none of them are looking for handouts either, they are all survivors who are resourceful, hard working and will rebuild using their own money and relying on each other for help.

FEMA has given them all a small amount for rental reimbursement which helps, but certainly does not cover the costs but that’s what FEMA is for, this is our tax dollars at work and there is a screening process which makes you prove you are a real victim.

So I ask, are the real victims of Hurricane Sandy getting help -or- are the “career dependent” taking advantage of getting another handout from the generosity of nicer people than me, who believe the money is going to help out “Hurricane Sandy Victims”?

I hope to hear back some good information from real victims that received help and change my skeptical ways!!
