Toms River Residents, Businesses Honored For Helping Police Department

The Toms River Police department in conjunction with the Toms River Police Foundation, PBA Local 137 and FOP Lodge 156 hosted an awards banquet Nov. 14 at the Holiday Inn in town to honor township residents and businesses that have served the local police department and the community.

Citizens and officers were recognized for their service to the community for over 50 events that occurred between August 2010 and July 2013, Lt. Jeffrey E. Lennox said.

The events included successful criminal investigations, narcotics investigations which led to significant financial forfeiture and the seizure of large quantities of narcotics, life-saving events, and the capture of armed criminals, said Lennox, in a statement.

Several local businesses, organizations, and individuals were also awarded plaques for their "tireless support of the mission of the Toms River Police Department during the year and during the days and months following Super Storm Sandy."

The event ended with the presentation of a Lifetime Achievement Award to Chief Michael G. Mastronardy in recognition of his 40 years of service with the department.

Mastronardy will be retiring, likely in January, when he assumed his new elected position as Ocean County Sheriff.
