Frazier Scores as Reds Fall to Cubs

Toms River native draws two walks in third straight start.

Former Toms River little league hero Todd Frazier made his major-league best third consecutive start for the Reds, Friday afternoon, in a 5-4 losing effort to the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley field.

The Toms River South graduate went 0-2, with two walks and a run scored, playing third base and left field, and batted eighth in the lineup.

With two outs in the top of the fourth inning, Frazier drew a walk off Cubs pitcher Ryan Dempster on four pitches. The next batter, pitcher Mike Leake, flared a single to center field, and Frazier used his speed to advance to third base.

That speed would pay off once again, as Frazier scored on a wild pitch in the next at-bat, with Drew Stubbs at the plate.

Frazier walked again in the top of the sixth -- this time on eight pitches -- and would advance to second after Leake walked as well. He would be stranded there.

He also popped out in the top of the second inning in his first at-bat of the game and was called out looking on a strikeout in the top of the eighth inning.

The Cubs scored twice in the first inning, and once in the second inning to take the early 3-0 lead over Cincinnati.

The Reds climbed back with two runs in the fourth inning, and Ramon Hernandez drew Cincinnati within one run with an eighth inning home run, but it was not enough in the losing effort.

Frazier is now batting .259 on the season.
