Winter Programs Offer Family Fun

Ocean County Parks and Recreation Department offering a handful of new programs for children and parents.

If you are stumped on what to do during the cold winter days, there's family fun offered in some new or amended programs sponsored by the and Recreation Department.

The events range from bowling to gym days to parachute games. There's a small fee, and registration is required.

Programs include:

Born to Play: Parent and child will enjoy indoor bowling, basketball and parachute games. The cost is $8 per team (1 child and 1 adult), ages 3 to 5 years for children. The class will be Tuesday, February 7 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Program Room at Parks Administration Office, Toms River.

A new location has been added at the Community Center, “Tip” Seaman County Park, Tuckerton on Thursday, March 22 from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Bumper Bowling: This is a class for parents and children to enjoy together as they learn the sport of bowling. The program serves as an introduction to bowling and on the lanes practice. This class will be held on Fridays, at Brunswick Lakewood Lanes, 101 Locust St. (Rt. 9 and 70), Lakewood from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. from February 24 to March 16. The fee for each child will be $10 and $10 per adult; the class is for children ages 3 to 5 with an adult.

Fun Bus/Fitness Program: Program for children age 3 to 6 years. A refurbished school bus brightly decorated and full of gym equipment will be parked and ready for your child to play and have supervised fun. The program is held rain or shine on the following dates: Tuesday, March 13 at Jakes Branch County Park, Beachwood. The program will run from 10 to 11 a.m. The fee is $12 per child.

Twisters Party Time: The program will be held at Twisters Gymnastics, 485 Locust St., Lakewood. Kids will have a “Party” without the worry of you planning. The children will enjoy the facility as if attending a party, playing on the equipment with a teacher from the gym. This program will be held on Tuesday March 27 at 11 a.m. to 12p.m. The cost is $14 per child, ages 3 to 5 years. 

Splash: This instructional swim program will be offered at the , 1088 West Whitty Road. The classes will be taught by instructors from the YMCA. The classes will be held Fridays, March 2 to 23 at 4:15 to 4:45 p.m. The fee will be $53 per child. The class will be offered to children ages 3 to 14 years of age. Children will be divided into age groups. If not potty trained, please wear a swim diaper.

Mini Gym Program: This class will teach basic gym exercises on safe and soft equipment. Ages 3 to 5 years. $8.00 per child. Children must be potty trained. Class will run on Thursday, March 8 from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Parks Administration Program Room, Toms River.

To register for any of these programs, send a check made payable to the “County of Ocean" to Ocean County Parks and Recreation, 1198 Bandon Road, Toms River, NJ.
