Todd Frazier News: Reds Rookie Has Unusual Home Run and Saves Choking Victim

With two unusual incidents a day apart, Todd Frazier has had quite a week.

The Toms River native and Cincinnati Reds rookie third baseman hit his fifth home run of the season May 27, against the Colorado Rockies.

But a replay of the homer shows he managed to do it without a complete grip on his bat. The ball ended up in row eight, while the bat slips entirely out of the hands of Frazier as he follows through with his hit.

Frazier, an alumnus of Toms River's World Champion Little League team, told the New York Daily News that he felt the bat slip out of his hands. "I looked at the (slow motion) and it looks like my bottom hand is off. At first, I thought it was a short popup, but then I took a couple of steps and said, 'Oh.' It's a pretty interesting way to hit a home run. It was a pretty cool."

The next day, Frazier would become a hero.

On May 28, Frazier saved a man from choking by using the Heimlich Maneuver. Frazier, who was dining at a Pittsburgh restaurant with a teammate, dislodged a piece of steak from the victim at another table, according to MLB.com.

Frazier told writer Mark Sheldon that the incident was "pretty surreal" but that he was the closest to the victim's table, got up and wrapped his arms around the man, performed the Heimlich and prevented him from choking.
