Weekly Sports Recap: Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing, Toms River Tigers
Baseball again front and center
Local sports this week centered primarily around baseball, as Toms River product Todd Frazier continues to make an impact with the Cincinnati Reds and the Toms River Tigers look to advance past the Jersey Shore Baseball League semifinals. The Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association also continues their summer championship sailing.
Starting in the big leagues Frazier continues to make contributions while filling in for the injured Scott Rolen. Frazier appeared in five of the Reds’ six games this week, with the highlight coming in his Sunday performance.
Facing the Chicago Cubs at iconic Wrigley Field, Frazier hit his second homerun of the week and his third in the Majors, a two run shot in the top of the fourth that put the Reds out in front 3-2.

Frazier would come up with an even more clutch hit in the eighth inning. With the Reds trailing 7-6, Frazier lined a one out double down the left field line to drive in Joey Votto and even the score. His career high three RBI performance provided the difference in the Reds’ 8-7 victory.
For the week Frazier batted .286 with two homeruns and four RBIs.

In the Jersey Shore Baseball League semifinals, the Toms River Tigers squared off in a best of three series with the Point Merchants, which opened with a double header on Sunday.
The first game was knotted up at 1-1 before Brady Doyle broke the game open with a two run RBI double to put the Tigers in front, 3-1. Doyle would later score on an Anthony LaCava single.
Cory Hanes recorded the complete game victory, limiting the two time defending champion Merchants to just one run on five hits as the Tigers won 4-1.
The second game did not turn out so well for the Tigers, as the Merchants fought off elimination by downing the Tigers 6-1. The decisive third game will be played Tuesday night at 7:30 at Point Borough High School.
