The Bemis Trophy for the doubleheaded championship was claimed by the sailing team of Pearson Potts of Newport, R.I. and Tristan Sess of Center Moriches, N.Y.  It was a tight finish for the team as they registered finishes of sixth and fourth on their final day of racing, but held on for a seven point victory in the competition.

In lacrosse action 2011 Toms River North graduate Tatum Coffey was player of the match for Team USA, as they defeated Australia in the championship game of the Federation of International Lacrosse Under-19 Women's World Championship.

Coffey also contributed a goal and an assist in the Americans’ 14-11 victory on Saturday in Hannover, Germany, in which they overcame an early 6-3 deficit.

On to the baseball diamond, it was a tough week for Toms River product Todd Frazier, who only recorded two hits while appearing in six of seven games this week for the Cincinnati Reds.

The highlight of the week for Frazier came on Saturday night when he belted his fourth career homerun as he went yard off of San Diego Padres starter Tim Stauffer, belting a solo shot to left center field.

Frazier’s bomb was one of seven Reds’ homeruns on the evening, as they cruised to a 13-1 victory at Great American Ball Park.  The Reds finished 4-2 for the week in games in which Frazier appeared.

For the week Frazier batted .111 with one homerun, one RBI, five strikeouts, and three walks.

Elsewhere on the diamond, the Toms River Tigers took on the Point Merchants in Point Boro in the decisive game three of their semifinal playoff series.  The Tigers were unable to take down the defending league champions, dropping the contest 7-5.

And Barnegat Bay Yacht Racing Association continued their summer series of championship sailing, although with only two scheduled events this Saturday.  Results for the races are as follows:

Flying Scot – Peter Sayia

Sanderling – Mark Q. Schleckser
