'Campfire S'mores' Takes People's Choice at 2013 Ice Cream Festival

2013 New Jersey State Ice Cream Festival was held Saturday in downtown Toms River

An expected crowd of thousands came to downtown Toms River this weekend to pick their favorite treat during the 2013 New Jersey State Ice Cream Festival.

After sampling the cold creations of more than a dozen ice cream vendors, the people spoke and crowned the Campfire S'mores by national brand Gifford's as their favorite.

In second place was Lemon Crème by Beachwood-based Two Sisters, and Marvelous Mud by Zita's in New Providence came in third.

Among the local participants were Sprinkle Shack of Bayville, and Cherry's of Toms River. Challengers from across the state and nation included Nasto's of Newark, Clyde's of Garfield, Cookman Creamery of Asbury Park, Haagen Dazs, Friendly's, and Gifford's.
