The 2012 Ocean County Fair gets under way late this afternoon at Robert J. Miller Airpark in Berkeley Township.
The fair will have shortened schedules from 5 to 11 p.m. today and Wednesday; full days and nights Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.; and 11 am. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
And unlike past recent fairs where temperatures were in the 90s, this week will be a lot easier on visitors and animals alike, with temperatures in the 80s and sunny skies.
The schedule for Day 1 is as follows:
- Bwana Jim's Wildlife Show, Hot Dog Pig Racing and Chainsaw Carving Demonstrations will run throughout the evening.
- Therapeutic Riding Demonstration gets under way at 6 p.m. in the Horse Show tent.
- Seeing Eye Puppy Demonstration starts at 7 p.m. in the 4-H Show Tent.
- The Zuzu African Acrobats from Kenya will do three shows on the main stage at 7 p.m. 8:15 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
The fair also features 4-H demonstrations, craft demonstrations, rides, food, funnel cakes and music.
Fair visitors can purchase "pay one price" tickets for $20 on Tuesday and $20 Wednesday. They can also purchase a ride "megapass" for $40, for rides the entire five days of the fair.
