A Salute to Heroes for Memorial Day

Wreath laying ceremony attended by vets, elementary students, Runyan.

Hands were steady upon hearts and on foreheads as attendees saluted and pledged during a well attended ceremony for Memorial Day on Friday.

On this Memorial Day weekend at Toms River's Ocean County library,  the 16th Annual Veterans Wreath Laying and Memorial Service,  was conducted by the Ocean County Veterans Memorial Association.

Many veterans from the Korean, Vietnam and Iraq wars and World War II were honored from Congressman Jon Runyan, as he handed out caps to the vets,  in rememberance of their service to this country.

There was a moment of silence as Taps played and the proud men and women who served their country paid their respect to those who had died.

Timothy Ryan, a local funeral director, played master of ceremonies to the event.

At the beginning of the event,  students from Lanes Mills School in Brick were there singing there patriotic hearts out with such songs as God Bless America to This Land is Your Land.

After Taps was played,  people were led out side to the Vietnam Veterans War memorial were there was a wreath lain on the memorial. They had a moment of silence before breaking for a luncheon back inside the library. It allowed for the chance to connect, share stories, and remember the holiday.
