April 23, 1951: Toms River Rotary Club's Charter Night
Charity organizes scholarship, Sailfest, other projects
On April 23, 1951, local volunteers founded a chapter of the Rotary Club — an international organization dedicated to community projects and charities.
Since its inception, the Rotary Club of Toms River has raised more than $1 million.
The club has an annual scholarship program assisting seniors from the four area high schools. The bonds with local high schoolers grew in 1998 when an Interact Club consisting of young men and women at Monsignor Donovan High School was formed.
