Calendar of Events Honoring Memorial Day

Parades, wreath-layings, ceremonies for the national holiday

The real meaning of Memorial Day, members of the Toms River Township Council pointed out Tuesday, is not an opportunity for a backyard barbecue but in paying tribute.

“They gave the ultimate sacrifice,” said Councilwoman Melanie Donohue-Appleby, saying the day is one of remembering those who died fighting for the United States.

She and other members of the council encouraged the public to share in the annual Memorial Day parade down Main Street, kicking off at 9 a.m. Monday.
