Board members of the Friends of the Ocean County Child Advocacy Center accepted a donation in the amount of $10,000 from the Investors Bank Foundation.
These funds will be used to purchase equipment and supplies needed to equip a new medical examination room at the Ocean County Child Advocacy Center, located at 7 Hadley Avenue in Toms River.
An on premises examination room will allow the option for forensic medical exams to be conducted of victims of sexual assault, in a child friendly and non-threatening environment.
The center collects and preserves medical evidence, including specimens, pictures and other documentation that is critical to proving as evidence in cases of sexual assault, especially in children.
“I issued the challenge to the newly formed Friends of the Ocean County Child
Advocacy Center to help us finance the purchase of equipment and supplies for this important component of our Child Advocacy Center. They met that challenge, and for that all of us in law enforcement, as well as the public we serve, are grateful for the generosity of Investors Savings Bank Foundation,” said Prosecutor Ford.
The Friends of the Ocean County Child Advocacy Center Board is composed
of The Hon. Barbara A. Villano, (J.S.C., retired); The Hon. Robert Fall (J.S.C. retired), Former Ocean County Prosecutor and Senator James Holzapfel, Toms River Attorney Harvey York and Ocean County businesswoman and philanthropist, Rosanne Citta. Up until his untimely death in January, former Ocean County Prosecutor Dan Carluccio was also an active board member.
The Ocean County Child Advocacy Board has been working for some time with the National Children’s Alliance (NCA), which provides training and technical assistance to communities establishing and strengthening Children’s Advocacy Centers. There are ten NCA standards for accreditation, one of them being organizational structure which includes an element of community support with a community advisory board. The formation of the Friends of the Ocean County Child Advocacy Center meets one of those important accreditation standards.
The donation was made July 9.
