Founded in 1922, the mission of the Toms River Fire Company No. 2 is to extinguish fires, rescue and save lives and protect property. Notable events in the early years of the fire department included assisting with a crash and fire of the airship Hindenburg at the Navy Base Lakehurst in 1937 and an Ocean County Jail fire in 1959. Currently there are over 100 members of the Toms River Fire Company No. 2. Toms River Fire Company No. 2 has two locations: The main station is located on West Water Street, while the substation is at 1049 Hooper Avenue.
