The Toms River Township, originally known as Dover Township, became the county seat in 1850 upon the establishment of Ocean County. Dover Township became Toms River Township in 2006. The Toms River Township is at the Toms River Municipal Complex along with the Town Hall. Various township meetings are held at the Town Hall, such as Planning Board Meetings, Municipal Alliance, and Regular Council Meetings.
