Why would anyone think that adding steps to a salary guide gives officers more opportunity forRead More greater salaries???? It is a way of not giving the rank and file officers who work the worst shifts and do all the hard work to work many more years before they can retire. Why not add steps or take away money from freeloaders, excuse me, I mean freeholders who are politically elected and use our county as an employment agency. So wear a bullet-proof vest to work, work long, hard hours, get your contract cancelled by the governor, not paid as promised and now have at least 15 years added on before you can retire and call it "an opportunity to make more money throughout your career" I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you, including a real American Flag!!!!UNACCEPTABLE FREEHOLDERS!!!!!
Dale July 24, 2014 at 03:33 pm
The wages and salaries look like a typical corporation: Those on the bottom are paid too little andRead More those on the top are paid too much. It would have been better for those who are paid little to receive a raise while those who are already paid extravagantly not to receive an increase.
Old Guy July 24, 2014 at 09:44 am

I would think that if Piero actually depends on his salary and benefits from his public worker jobRead More he would have serious concerns about an overly ambitious, opportunistic and out of control politician who is AGAIN cheaply and unfairly targeting middle class public workers in his state in order to score some national recognition points from Republican extremists. And as corporate, non-executive employees in this country have been increasingly treated unfairly for years with their CEO's pay continue to explode upward as their pay is remains stagnant and their benefits shrink, that shouldn't mean that public workers should also accept that same fate. Non-executive corporate employees have to also learn to unionize and organize to stand up to the continuing mistreatment.

Lori Morrison July 24, 2014 at 02:24 pm
Both the property behind the post office and the Food Town lot were purchased with the intent ofRead More providing open space or a community center. With the current plans there will be condos and apartments that have no age restrictions at both locations. What kind of burden will this put on the Township and school systems? How many retail stores are vacant now? My concern it that the revenues received will not cover the expenses the Town will incur.
Mike M July 24, 2014 at 03:09 pm
The easy and quite frankly lazy way to redevelop property is to designate a redeveloper and let themRead More build whatever they feel will maximize their profitability. If our Council does not act in our best interests we will see the cookie cutter development consisting of unneeded retail and residential space (ie. behind Shop Rite/ Post Office) at Forge Pond. Who does the Council represent in their ongoing discussions with M&M? Are they listening to the strong opposition to the redeveloper's proposed plan that has been voiced by residents? It seems bizarre to me that the simple request for information can be deflected by the town's attorney through a claim of attorney/ client privilege.

Just go to Windward Beach and observe all the great benefits to the quality of life in Brick,Read More especially now that the state-of-the-art playground is in operation, and then imagine Brick Township without it. Preserve as much open space as possible and you'll NEVER regret it.

Driving is a privilege, not a right...
Alex C July 24, 2014 at 03:54 pm
In case anyone is wondering why this checkpoint was announced, it's because legally, it has to be,Read More otherwise it's a violation for the Fourth Amendment. If you would like to know more, you can do some research into Michigan State Police v Sitz (1990). Long and short of it is that random check points really can't be random. They must announced with a time, place, purpose, and duration ahead of time in local media (like Patch), and must be clearly marked by signage ahead of the actual check point. If you don't like it, I suggest you write your representative and suggest he/she propose a repeal or alteration of the Fourth Amendment to the United States Constitution.

IS MOCHA A RUN AWAY SLAVE?
CEFisher July 24, 2014 at 01:59 pm
Just because people are concerned about a dog (a dog who was horrifically killed and whining in painRead More while scratching at its cage to escape) does NOT mean they are not concerned about other issues. I am a dog-lover but I am also care about humans. Why is there ALWAYS the assumption that people who fight for animals do not fight for humans? I do both. Lots of charity work for both. So please refrain from judging people who care about animals before knowing them. You're being very close-minded. And as for the case at hand, we CANNOT allow something like this to occur with no repercussions. To those who don't think this is an important issue, should we allow it to occur wherever and whenever? Should we tell people that it's okay to murder their dogs using any way they see fit? If this man is not held accountable, we could set ourselves up for a disaster where people think it's okay to euthanize their own animals simply because they do not want to spend the money to take them to a vet. The bottom line is, this man did something wrong (ILLEGAL) and he should be held accountable. The case was not handled properly and it should have been. Whether this was a case about humans or a case about an animal is irrelevant.
Phil MacKenzie July 24, 2014 at 02:37 pm
First of all, you can't murder an animal. Only a human can be murdered. Second, car exhaust is CORead More poisoning. CO poisoning is painless. People die from CO poisoning all the time in their sleep. Exhaust fumes used to be the preferred method of euthanasia for animals. Obviously the town investigated and found no reason to pursue this.

I like the name change. It modernizes the school and still pays homage to Msgr. Donovan. I alsoRead More appreciate that the school is looking to redefine its image and attract more students. The school has so much to offer. My children had wonderful experiences and a great education there. Change is never easy, but it is necessary to grow and improve. I believe that Donovan has made a difference in the lives of my children and has given them a solid academic foundation as well as providing them with leadership skills. They had the opportunity to live their faith and the school reinforces how important service is in a community. Worth every penny and sacrifice.
