The Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Company was developed in 1926 by members of the Toms River Fire Department after…More discussing the need for service in the area because of the volatile grass fields and woodlands.
The deparment covers 23 square miles of Toms River, including 6.1 miles of the Garden State Parkway, seven miles of Route 9, 8.5 miles of Route 527, and three miles of Route 571.
The fire department has grown from 20 members to over 60, including fire police and explorers. Today there are 50 Active Fire Fighters, 8 Fire Police , 2 Probationary Members, 9 Associate Members, and 5 Explorers.
The Toms River Fire Commissioner located on Warner Street is a sub-station of the Pleasant Plains Volunteer Fire Company.
