Training for a 5K is a great way to boost your cardiovascular health, reduce stress or simply add more running to your routine. With several races going on this fall, the Toms River area is the perfect place to get in on the action. The Ocean County Running Club lists several events on its calendar. On Oct. 14, the Seaside Half Marathon & 5K kicks off in Seaside Park; and on Oct. 20, the Beachwood 5K River Run & 1 Mile Run provides another option to train for. Three events to raise awareness and funds for Malawi
For the second year, the Presbyterian Church of Toms River will reach out to the community to help those in need, both in Africa and in town. The annual Faithworks Weekend will feature events to raise money and awareness for the plight of those in Malawi, Africa and help those older residents of the area with some spring cleanup work. The weekend kicks off on Saturday April 21 with three events at Winding River Park in Toms River – A 5k run, a dog walk and a bike/trike-a-thon. Local Rotary Club presents race to benefit local students.
It was a cool sunny day in Historic Downtown Toms River, as walkers and runners could be seen warming up for their course. Participants gathered in front of the Ocean County Library on Washington Street to await the start. First up was the Fun Run, which aims to be just that. Runners as young as 3-year-old Ryan Caruso and mother Amy could be seen taking part in this one mile course. Following the Fun Run was the main event - the Jingle Bells 5k Run. At the pistol's report, hundreds of runners left their marks. This event, presented by the Rotary Club of Toms River aims to benefit local high school students through the club's scholarship programs.
