Appeals Panel Nixes Christie COAH Plan

Court rules that the governor lacks authority to reorganize an independent agency, saying future of Council on Affordable Housing is up to state Legislature.

A state appeals panel has overturned Gov. Chris Christie's reorganization of New Jersey's affordable housing bureaucracy, saying the governor lacked authority to abolish an independent agency. Christie issued an executive order in June 2011 that eliminated the state Council on Affordable Housing and transferred its responsibilities to the state Department of Community Affairs. Christie says he will appeal the decision. "We are obviously disappointed with the court decision, which only perpetuates the nightmare New Jersey has endured for decades with the COAH bureaucracy," said Christie spokesman Michael Drewniak. In its ruling, written by Judge Philip S. Charchman, the appellate panel said that the state Reorganization Act "does not grant …

Sal, mi amici, NJ has had many Bad Governors and I don't feel Christie is one of them. Both parties have contributed to NJ history in that regard. Christie is doing what the People elected him to do. Clean up NJ both Financially and internally. For that he will constantly be maligned by opponents of reformation. Look at the mess the NJ TrnPk has become. Filthy! It used to be a Model for the …   more ›

Two Nobility Crests: One Approved in Brick, One Approved in Toms River

Both projects plan for townhouses, rental units and commercial space along busy roads

Toms River and Brick townships will have something in common: each town approved a development called Nobility Crest this year, with each project creating controversy. Nobility Crest LLC is overseeing both projects. Brick's was approved by its planning board this week, while the proposal for Toms River was approved back in March. The two sites are about six miles apart when traveling Route 70. The Toms River site is just north of Cox Cro Road, along Route 9. It includes the construction of a 53,000-square-foot shopping center, two 25-unit apartment buildings and 200 townhouse units. The Toms River project brought out residents' concerns of child/pedestrian safety and traffic. The development could create pedestrian traffic on Route 9, as …

Zoning Board Approves Affordable Housing, Townhouses, Strip Mall for Route 9

Nobility Crest project to be built north of Cox Cro

Officials approved last night a plan that would put affordable housing units, townhouses and a strip mall on Route 9 north of Cox Cro Road. The Toms River Zoning Board of Adjustment voted to approve the Nobility Crest project with an amended variance on a proposal to build a strip mall, townhouses and two apartment buildings. The project was first put before the board in 2006, again in 2009 and, after three meetings in 2011, the client, Nobility Crest @ Dover LLC, was granted final approval to proceed with construction by the board.   The plan will erect a 53,000-square-foot shopping center, two 25-unit apartment buildings and 200 townhouse units north of Cox Cro Road on Route 9. Joseph D. Coronato Esq., who represents Nobility Crest @ …

Controversial Nobility Crest Route 9 Project Before Zoning Board Thursday

Could add affordable housing, 200 townhouses, 2 apartment buildings and a strip mall to Route 9 north of Cox Cro

A controversial plan to build 200 townhouse and 50 apartment building units as well as a strip mall on Route 9 in Toms River will again be before the Zoning Board of Adjustment this week. The board meets March 10 and is scheduled to address the Nobility Crest project, concerning a parcel north of Cox Cro Road on Route 9. Board members heard growing concern from residents, many of which were from the Pleasant Plains and North Dover sections of town, including nearby Liberty Village residents, at the February zoning board meeting. The application began in January. The proposal includes the construction of a 53,000-square-foot shopping center, two 25-unit apartment buildings and 200 townhouse units. At the previous meeting, concerns included …

Not a problem. Never think you over react to anything done by politicians. They are out for themselves and need to be reminded more so everyday that they work for the people. Common sense tells us that with real estate the way it is we do not need another strip mall or more dwellings. But then there is politics which defies anything rational. Good luck.   more ›
