UPDATE: Bahama Breeze Plans Summer Opening at Ocean County Mall

Caribbean-themed restaurant planned to open this summer, but construction of the site has sparked some controversy.

Bahama Breeze plans to open its latest location at the Ocean County Mall sometime this summer, but construction of the property has sparked concern from some local workers who are upset that a company from outside New Jersey has been contracted to work on the restaurant's construction.   The 8,000-square-foot Caribbean-themed restaurant is being built as a pad site on mall property, on the southwest side jughandle by Hooper and Bay avenues, and will mark the fourth Bahama Breeze location within New Jersey. "We are excited to add Bahama Breeze to our roster of more than 120 specialty retailers," said Tara Melodick, Ocean County Mall’s director of marketing and business development, in a statement. Toms River Council To Meet Tuesday

Meeting could update township sexual harassment policy, approve destruction of Ortley First Aid building

The Toms River Township Council will meet 6 p.m. Tuesday Oct. 23 to decide new ordinances updating the sexual harassment policies for township employees. Among the other business is a contract to demolish the Ortley Beach First Aid Squad Building. The ordinance updates township code for police officers investigation of sexual harassment to align procedures with new attorney general rules. Other ordinances so far scheduled for the Tuesday meeting for public comment and final passage are refunding of bond notes and updating employee classification. Toms River Council may also accept a bid for $30,000 to demolish the Ortley Beach First Aid Squad Building. The facility came under township control after the squad's membership fell and township …

New Restaurant Pad Site Approved for Ocean County Mall

Bahama Breeze to come to mall's southwest corner on Hooper and Bay

The Hooper Avenue section of Toms River could soon feel the warm island air and dine on Caribbean-inspired food when Bahama Breeze comes to town. “It has been approved by the town planning board,” said township planner Jay Lynch. “But the company is going through compliance resolution, which means there are still some more approvals it needs to receive in order to receive the proper permits.” No timeline has been set for the project’s start or completion, but Lynch said it has been approved for a liquor license.
