Indians junior wrestler become first state champion since 1984; Theobold finishes second, Corrigan takes fifth
BJ Clagon sat by himself, behind the stands where the wrestlers and coaches sit, talking to no one, the hood of his sweatshirt up, iPod playing, his body language telling everyone around him to leave him alone. The finals of the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling Championships were barely under way, and the Toms River South junior still had more than an hour before he would get to step on the mat in Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City on Sunday for his bout against Tyler Hunt of South Plainfield. “I was nervous,” Clagon said. “I think it helped me have more focus.” If anyone doubted Clagon’s focus, they had to be convinced fairly quickly as he went after Hunt in his usual aggressive fashion, scoring a takedown and catching Hunt off-guard in the …

Theobold, Lacey's Knapp take second
BJ Clagon finished what he started. The junior 138-pounder became the first Toms River South wrestler to win a state championship since 1984 when he pinned unbeaten Tyler Hunt of South Plainfield 1:37 into their bout on Sunday at the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling Championships. Clagon, who finished the season 41-0, also was named the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. Clagon's teammate, Ken Theobold, lost in his championship bout at 145 pounds when he was pinned by Alexander Richardson of St. Peter's Prep in 54 seconds. Lacey's Lex Knapp, the first Lions wrestler to reach the finals since 1997, was beaten by Brandon Hull of Phillipsburg in the 220-pound final, 5-2. Corrigan wrestling for fifth place
Ken Theobold paced on the mat, watching his teammate, BJ Clagon, finishing off his victory in the semifinals of the NJSIAA Individual Wrestling Championships. The two are friends and wrestling room partners, but in the state tournament in Atlantic City this weekend, they were semifinalists with very different roles. Clagon, a state finalist at the 2011 championships, came into the tournament as a favorite to win the title at 138 pounds. Theobold, on the other hand, was the decided underdog in his semifinal at 145. He was wrestling the top seed in the bracket, T.J. Miller of Camden Catholic, who won a title last year and had just one loss all year -- none within New Jersey. None of that mattered to Theobold, who went out and pulled off one …
